INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups of fresh strawberries
- 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- ½ cup of sugar
- ½ cup of cold butter
- ⅓ cup of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
- 1 tablespoon of almond flakes
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- 1 beaten egg
- ½ teaspoon of baking powder
METHOD
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Line the bottom of an 8×8 dish with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, ½ cup of white sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Using a fork, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture. Work the dough until the butter pieces become very small. The dough will have a crumbly texture. Alternatively, you can use a food processor to achieve the desired crumb consistency.
- In a separate measuring cup or small bowl, mix the beaten egg and vanilla essence. Add this mixture to the flour mixture and combine until crumbly.
- Take half of the dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared dish.
- In another bowl, combine the strawberries with 1/3 cup of sugar and cornstarch. Mix well.
- Distribute the strawberry mixture evenly over the bottom crust.
- Crumble the remaining dough mixture over the strawberries.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes or until the top turns lightly brown.
- Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting them into squares. It is recommended to refrigerate them until ready to serve.
