INGREDIENTS

  • 500g of your preferred minced meat
  • Half an onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed ginger and garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon of chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried mixed herbs
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 3 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of steak and chops spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of thyme
  • 1 bottle (340ml) of crushed tomato with basil

METHOD

  1. In a pan, sauté onions, garlic, and crushed ginger and garlic in olive oil until the onions become slightly translucent.
  2. Add crushed chili flakes, dried herbs, and bay leaves to the pan. Mix well and cook for 3-5 minutes over medium heat. Cover the pan with a lid to expedite the process.
  3. Incorporate the washed minced meat into the onion mixture, breaking it up and ensuring it blends well.
  4. Season the minced meat with steak and chops spice, black pepper, chili powder, thyme, and salt. Allow it to cook covered for approximately 8-10 minutes.
  5. Here’s the secret: Pour in a bottle of crushed tomatoes with basil into the meat mixture. This adds a significant depth of flavor to your sauce. Don’t discard the leftover sauce in the bottle; instead, add a little water to it and pour it into the meat mixture.
  6. Let the meat sauce simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes, and you’re ready to start layering your lasagna. 👌🏽
