Pineapple Crush Dessert

South African Pineapple Crush Dessert

Looking for a simple and foolproof summer dessert that will wow your taste buds and your guests?

This Pineapple Crush Dessert, which happens to be my sister-in-law’s specialty, is a true crowd-pleaser.

With just seven ingredients and an affordable cost of around +- R230, it’s a budget-friendly and an option that easily feeds 10 guests.

The first time I saw my sister-in-law making this recipe, I was quite amused by what she was doing, adding and mixing ingredients in a bowl that seemed like they didn’t belong together. Anyway, she told me to just wait and see. She learned this from her sister-in-law, and when I tasted it, I was blown away.

After sharing it online for the first time last year, I discovered that this is a recipe that has been made over and over again in many homes for decades. Some use the exact same ingredients, while others tweak it. Some add a layer of Tennis biscuits, and others don’t. However you make it, I’m sure it’s amazing and refreshing.

In our family, we use the ingredients below. If you’ve never tried it, definitely give it a go!

INGREDIENTS

  • 250 ml Fresh Cream
  • 250 ml Sour Cream
  • 1 Tin (385g) Condensed Milk
  • 1 Tin (290g) Nestle Dessert Cream
  • 1 Tin (432g) Pineapple Crush (Drained)
  • 2 Tubs (2 x 115g) Granadilla Pulp or 1 Big Tub (240g)
  • 1 Flake

METHOD

  1. Begin by whisking the fresh cream for about 3 minutes.
  2. The add in the tub of sour cream and whisk until smooth.
  3. Add the tin of condensed milk to the mixture and mix well until combined. (Try not to over mix)
  4. Incorporate the tin cream, ensuring it blends seamlessly with the other ingredients. This adds another depth of richness to the dessert.
  5. Drain the syrup from the pineapple crush tin and add it to the creamed mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Finally, add the two tubs of granadilla pulp and continue mixing for approximately 2 minutes until the mixture thickens. It should look like a thick yoghurt consistency.
  7. Crumble over the flake and cover with cling wrap.
  8. Refrigerate the dessert for a few hours to set, ideally overnight for the best results.
  9. Serve the Pineapple Crush Dessert as and enjoy.

This creamy and refreshing dessert is a real summer treat that will impress your guests. Please note that blending all the ingredients together in a blender may not yield the desired texture. Instead, use a whisk to ensure each ingredient is well incorporated without over-whisking.

Keep in mind that this dessert sets overnight, so it’s perfect for preparing in advance for events or gatherings. Get ready to savor the delightful flavors of this Pineapple Crush Dessert and enjoy a taste of summer in every bite.

I’ve shared this recipe about four times now on my social media platforms, and the comments vary. The majority of people who try this recipe nail it, while some find that the dessert doesn’t set. We’re still not sure why, whether it’s due to the quality of the ingredients used, over-whipping, or perhaps not allowing enough setting time.

If for some reason your dessert doesn’t set, I recommend buying a pack of jelly, 1 Trotters Pineapple (1 x 40g). If it still doesn’t set, dissolve the jelly in a little hot water and mix it into the dessert. This should help it set perfectly.
