INGREDIENTS

Gulab Jamuns:

  • 500ml flour
  • 10ml baking powder
  • 1ml bicarbonate of soda
  • 5ml elachi powder
  • 5ml nutmeg
  • 40ml semolina
  • 40ml ghee
  • 1 tin Nestle condensed milk

Syrup:

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • Rose essence
  • Yellow coloring
  • Saffron

METHOD

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients for the gulab jamuns. Create a well in the center and add the ghee and tinned milk. Mix until a stiff dough forms. Knead the dough lightly.
  2. Shape the dough into balls, with each ball weighing around 25g. This recipe yields approximately 30 gulab jamuns.

  • Once you shape the gulab jamuns, avoid altering their size or shape. Maintain consistency for even cooking.
  • Boil the syrup until it reaches a sticky consistency, without overcooking.
  • Fry the gulab jamuns in a mixture of 2/3 oil and 1/3 ghee.
