This delightful mushroom burger draws inspiration from the famous Shroom Burger at Shake Shack, and it’s a vegetarian treat worth savouring.
In 2018, during a transit stop in Dubai, we were fasting and craving a satisfying vegetarian option. That’s when we discovered the Shroom Burger from Shake Shack. This burger features a generous Portobello mushroom stuffed with cheese and coated in crispy breadcrumbs. When you take a bite, the cheese oozes out, creating a perfect harmony with the mushroom’s texture.
Here’s my simplified take on the Shack Shake Shroom Burger Recipe.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 Large Portobello Mushrooms
- 150g Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1 Tablespoon of Flour
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1 Teaspoon Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon Cushshed Garlic
- 100g Grated Cheese
- 3/4 Cup Milk
METHOD
- Prepare the Mushrooms: Start by sautéing the Portobello mushrooms with a pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic. Allow them to rest, letting excess water release.
- Cheesy Filling: Once the mushrooms have cooled, generously stuff them with grated cheese. Ensure that the mushrooms are generously filled with cheese. Transfer them to the fridge for 15 minutes to set.
- Coating: Dip the stuffed mushrooms into milk and then toss them in breadcrumb mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. Double coating provides that irresistible crispiness.
- Frying: Shallow fry the crumbed mushrooms over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until they turn golden brown.
- Assembly: Place the golden, cheesy mushrooms on a paper towel to remove any excess oil. Now, it’s time to assemble your burger. Layer it with crisp lettuce, a slice of juicy tomato, and a dollop of spicy mayo.
- Enjoy: Dig into your homemade Shroom Burger and savor the mouthwatering combination of flavors and textures.
