Easy Flatbread Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves (chopped)
  • Extra olive oil for drizzling
  • Salt for sprinkling
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Customizable Toppings:

  • Cream cheese or Caramelised onion and balsamic dip
  • Sautéed Veggies (Mushrooms, Patty pans, Onions)
  • Pepperdews
  • Cubed Feta cheese
  • Fresh Rocket leaves
  • Balsamic Glaze
  • Fresh Chillies (optional for added heat)

METHOD

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
    • Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Mix the ingredients with a spoon until a sticky dough forms.
    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You may need to add a bit more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  4. Let the Dough Rise:
    • Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
    • Allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Roll and Shape:
    • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
    • Roll into your desired shape and flatten it with your hands.
    • On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin circle or oval.
    • Sprinkle the chopped fresh rosemary over the dough.
    • Drizzle olive oil over each flatbread, sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
  6. Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to 185 degrees Celsius (365 degrees Fahrenheit).
    • Bake the flatbread in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until it becomes golden brown and crispy.
  7. Customize Your Toppings:
    • Once the flatbread is baked, let it cool slightly.
    • Spread the caramelized onion and balsamic dip.
    • Add sautéed veggies (mushrooms, patty pans, onions), pepperdews, Add cubed Feta cheese, and fresh rocket leaves.
    • Drizzle with balsamic glaze and sprinkle red chili flakes for a touch of heat (optional).
  8. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve your customizable rosemary-infused flatbreads as a delicious appetizer, snack, or side dish.

Feel free to get creative with your toppings, as any combination can be used to suit your taste.
